Live Pilates has earned its credibility, through it’s professionalism and growth. They constantly update their website and send an email when they have important news. I have met the owners of this organisation which assists their credibility.

• The security to the internet is low and anyone and everyone can have access to uploading information and creating websites.

• The generations are becoming more electronic based and the more people inclined to use the web, the greater the chance of not credible sites arising.

• Website designer their site to appear credible when it actually is not.

• Organisations that use the internet as a main source of marketing may be judged unfairly just by their site and their perceived credibility. This can result in make or break situations for businesses.

• As technology develops, so do Hackers.

Web Credibility is a vital aspect when surfing in internet, in particular surfing for studies (Haywood, 1995, p.243). Due to the minimal security requirements that the World Wide Web has, it allows almost anyone to upload data on the internet. This obviously means that when researching information on the internet, the information you retrieve may not always be legitimate. Some hoax people intentionally upload information that isn’t perhaps fact but instead opinion or just pure fallacy (Orlik, Anderson, Day & Lawrence, 2007, p. 191). Therefore, as a student it is essential to only use sites that are indeed credible.

As a student, your references will not be accepted unless you utilise a credible website. There are four types of credibility; Presumed, Reputed, Surface and Earned (Fogg, 2003, p. 163).

Presumed- this type of credibility is the assumption that is made in the mind of the user. For example, a website ending in org. Click here to view a presumed site.

Reputed- this type of credibility comes from third party reports. For example, your hairdresser tells you about this site and how fantastic it is. Click here to view a reputed site.

Surface- this type of credibility comes from brief inspection. For example, a credible ‘first impression’. Click here to view a surface site.
